Health Specialist, L-4, Lilongwe, Malawi

If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Health Specialist to be based in its Lilongwe Office, Malawi.

The Health Specialist is responsible for Youth and Women’s reproductive health, including the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and Youth-Friendly Health Services (YFHS).  S/He is also expected to advocate, and provide technical support, to ensure access of HIV infected children and women to ARV treatment, nutrition support and home care as part of PMTCT Plus.  In addition, the Health Specialist supports the Programme Officer with the coordination of all other interventions supported by UNICEF in the area of HIV/AIDS under the current Country Programme.  The Health Specialist reports to the Project Officer - Health and Nutrition, but works with the support and guidance of the Programme Officer in relation to the HIV/AIDS coordination function. As the member of the UN Technical Working Group on HIV/AIDS representing UNICEF, the Health Specialist is expected to play a key role in promoting UN joint programming on HIV/AIDS.

Your profile:
• Medical Degree and an advanced degree in Public Health and Nutrition.
• Eight years progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in programme planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation in related field.  Field experience in the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention programmes in Africa would be an advantage.
• High level of technical knowledge in the fields of HIV/AIDS – MTCT, YFHS and VCT.
• Proven ability to conceptualize, develop, plan and manage programmes as well as to transfer knowledge and skills.
• Supervisory and managerial skills.
• Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
• Ability to work in an international or multicultural environment.
• Knowledge of computer management and applications.
• Excellent communication skills – written and spoken English in addition to and another UN language; knowledge of local/ national language an asset.
