Third International Conference on HIV Treatment Adherence

The National African HIV Conference 2008
Dates: March 27-28, 2008

Organizer: The conference is being organised by the African HIV Policy Network (AHPN) as part of its sector development and facilitation programme in conjunction with the National African HIV Prevention Programme.

The conference aims to bring together the affected communities, providers, policy makers researchers, commissioners and other stakeholders to share good practice within the HIV sector. It also offers an opportunity to discuss what still needs to be achieved in order to reduce the rates of HIV infection within African communities and improve the care and support offered to those already living with HIV.

Second Eastern Europe and Central Asia AIDS Conference: Accelerating Access to HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care for All

Organizer: The conference is organized by UNAIDS, The International AIDS Society, and the Government of the Russian Federation.

The conference will provide dialogue and interaction among political and community leaders, scientists and other researchers, people living with HIV and representatives of civil society from across the region in response to the challenges of the AIDS epidemic. The 2008 Conference will be grounded in the global commitment towards achievement of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.

2008 HIV/AIDS Implementers' Meeting
Dates: June 3-7, 2008

Organizer: The conference is hosted by the Government of Uganda and is co-sponsored by PEPFAR, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, the Secretariat of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, and UNICEF.

The theme of this year's conference is "Scaling Up Through Partnerships: Overcoming Obstacles to Implementation." Together, implementers will exchange best practices and lessons learned during the implementation of AIDS programmes, with a focus on building the capacity of local prevention, treatment, and care programs; maintaining quality control; and coordination among partners.

XVII International AIDS Conference
Dates: August 3-8, 2008
Location: Mexico City, Mexico
Organizer: Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and its co-sponsors, the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Food Programme (WFP); International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO); Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+)/International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW); World YWCA; Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN); Federal Government of Mexico and Government of Mexico City.

The International AIDS Conference will include discussion of scientific, programmatic and policy developments in the global AIDS response. The conference brings together the movement of people responding to the epidemic to share lessons and together stake out the road ahead. An estimated 25,000 participants and 3,000 journalists are expected to attend. The AIDS 2008 theme, Universal Action Now, emphasizes the need for continued urgency in the worldwide response to AIDS, and for action on the part of all stakeholders.

World AIDS Day 2008

World AIDS Day is a day when people from around the world come together within a single effort to raise awareness about HIV and to express global solidarity with people living with HIV. Many different activities and events are held worldwide. The theme for 2007 and 2008 is "Leadership," which highlights both the political leadership needed to fulfill commitments that have been made in the response to AIDS – particularly the promise of universal access to treatment, prevention, care and support – and celebrating the leadership that has been witnessed at all levels of society.

Africa's Response: Face the Facts
Dates: December 3-7, 2008
Location: Dakar, Senegal
Organizer: The conference is co-sponsored by AAVP, AfriCASO, IAS, IUSTI, La Societe Senegalaise d'Immunologie, NAP+, RARS, RESAPSI, SWAA, UNAIDS, WHO, and the Senegalese Ministry of Health.

At ICASA 2008, international and African experts will evaluate the current state of the HIV and STI epidemics with regard to science, communities and leadership. In addition, the conference will broach topics concerning other, equally important infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis.
