Breastfeeding and Family-Friendly Policies

An evidence brief

About

Breastfeeding support in the workplace is critical to maternal health and well-being, infant health and development, and gender equity in the workplace. Despite the positive effects of breastfeeding, currently only 40 per cent of children younger than 6 months old are exclusively breastfed as recommended, far lower than the 2030 target of 70 per cent. The workplace setting represents a substantial barrier to breastfeeding continuation among women who wish to breastfeed. This evidence brief aims to provide a summary of the evidence to advocate for family-friendly policies so that children worldwide can reach their full human potential.
