Children’s Investment Fund (CIFF)
Working together to strengthen and mainstream community-based management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in India.
CIFF and UNICEF have partnered to support high impact programmes to improve children’s nutrition at scale. Jointly, they are exploring child-centric community-based treatment of severe acute malnourished children which will support states with evidence to scale up.
The focus of the partnership is to support work on creating and strengthening systems for improving community-based interventions for acute malnutrition. Since only 2 per cent of acutely malnourished children in India get treated in hospital-based care.
CIFF and UNICEF have been working together in India since 2016 to create systems including centers for excellence, doing research on locally available dense foods and ensuring front line workers are trained and capable of handling children with acute malnutrition.
