UNICEF works with global institutions and development organizations to collectively advocate for rights of children. The Government and UNICEF acknowledge the role of global institutions and development organisations for women and children, and others, as critical partners in implementing UNICEF work in India.
Appropriate mechanisms are developed jointly by each of the participating global institutions and development partners to ensure that UNICEF assistance is routed most effectively. This helps to ensure accountability and consistency with the objectives of the programme, as set out in the Government of India-UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation 2018-2022.
In addition to its collaborative work with UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women and WHO to achieve results under the Country Programme 2018-2022, UNICEF relies on strong partnerships with other members of the United Nations family under the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF) 2018-2022, as well as with The World Bank.
UNICEF promotes UN-wide response through the United Nations Disaster Management Team and provides active support to the United Nations Communication Group, and supports UN System’s joint efforts for outreach and engagement strategies around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Where relevant, UNICEF strengthens its leadership for the coordination of development partners for key strategic programmes; for example, UNICEF is chairing the group of partners supporting the SBM. Also, UNICEF’s partnership with GAVI, Unilever and IKEA Foundation continues to achieve results for children, adolescents and women in India.
UNICEF with support the Government of India, in collaboration with partners, such as WHO and The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), through sharing of market intelligence, vaccine demand forecasts and priority vaccines requirements to inform the development of affordable vaccines by Indian manufacturers.
GAVI supports UNICEF India in its health system strengthening work, to ensure enhanced immunization coverage.
USAID has been supporting UNICEF India on the eradication of poliomyelitis in India. Centre for Disease Control, USA has been supporting UNICEF India on enhancing the routine immunization coverage and efforts on elimination of poliomyelitis.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been a longterm ally of UNICEF India towards efforts to eliminate Polio and Universal Salt iodisation. Rotary International has been supporting UNICEF India to sustain the momentum towards the elimination of poliomyelitis from India.
In addition to working with global institutions and development organizations, UNICEF's collaboration with civil society partners remains essential. This includes continued engagement with international NGOs, academic institutions, faith-based organisations, elected representatives, the mass media, celebrities, high-profile supporters, the private sector, communities, and youth and children’s organisations, as well as working closely with young people.
