Improving maternal and child health outcomes through equitable application of data science.
With financial support from The Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF is implementing a multi-country collaboration that aims to strengthen data-driven community health systems to improve maternal and child health outcomes through equitable application of data science.
Community-based primary health care has been proven to save lives and improve health. However, it is increasingly apparent that these systems are fragmented, function as stand-alone entities and do not channel data for health system analysis.
This work will help consolidate and accelerate use of digital technologies to strengthen health systems, better inform health managers and workers’ actions, and improve overall community health services.
Through partnerships with key stakeholders, UNICEF will support countries in developing scalable strategies for the aggregation and analysis of disparate data to enable decentralized decision making and real-time monitoring for stakeholders across the primary and community health system.
In India the partnership is currently operational in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and supports the national level policy and advocacy intervention. Moreover, learning and innovation labs will be established in India to provide proof points for a data-driven community health approach. At the global level, UNICEF will provide overall coordination, management and technical assistance to India, Uganda, and ESAR to ensure project success.
With financial support from The Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF continues to address this critical gap by empowering communities and health systems with the ultimate aim of and ultimately lead to more equitable health outcomes for mothers and children, ensuring that every child survives and thrives to its full potential in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
