I was working on a solution to an issue I care about, and when you want to do something, you’ll always figure out how to do it. After months of toil, focus and determination, I developed a Solar Ironing Cart for my community.
The place where I come from is one with beautiful sunsets at the temple, long roads with greenery around it, and a mountain loved by all those living there. Yet, even in the most seemingly perfect places, there’s always something to be improved on, something to be changed for the better- that’s where my adventure began.
It started with a simple observation: the use of charcoal in street-side ironing carts across India, contributes to environmental pollution and the health risks associated with charcoal smoke.
This observation sparked an idea: create the Solar Ironing Cart, an eco-friendly alternative that harnesses solar energy to power a traditional ironing cart. This innovation aims to reduce harmful emissions and support local economies by helping vendors save on fuel costs. The journey of bringing the Solar Ironing Cart to life wasn’t challenge-free.
As a girl in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), where female representation is relatively low, it wasn’t easy. From societal stereotypes that questioned my capabilities to the technical difficulties in designing a solar-powered mechanism that was cost-effective and efficient, each challenge made me question if it was worth doing.
As a child rights supporter, I would love to participate in initiatives that promote sustainable development and youth engagement in environmental and wildlife conservation. Through workshops, different activities, and participation in global forums, I would love to spark young people's passion for exploring their interests in STEM and innovation.
My efforts didn’t go unnoticed. I've been honoured with several national awards, including the National Youth Award and the prestigious Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award. These achievements were not just personal milestones to me but were acknowledgements of the potential that we as youth have to lead transformational change in today’s world.
One of the highlights of my journey so far was addressing the global leaders at COP26, where I advocated for sustainable practices and the vital role of youth in leading climate action. The experience was undoubtedly unique and rewarding, as I was given the platform on an international stage to voice the concerns of millions of youth and the opportunity to connect with like-minded people.
As we advance, supporting and investing in the next generation of young scientists, engineers, and leaders is crucial. The fight against climate change and conservation needs us all, and it starts with empowering every young mind to dream big and act on it.

The path to a sustainable future comes with its fair share of challenges, but it also gives us so many opportunities for change. I hope my story inspires a wave of young people, especially girls, who are not afraid, to think differently and are determined to positively impact our planet.
Embrace your potential, push the boundaries of what is possible, and work together towards a sustainable and equitable world.
